When you think of states with a great craft beer culture, Nebraska may not be the first to come to mind. But the Cornhusker State has some great breweries producing some beer that definitely holds it own on a national level. Whether you’re taking a weekend trip or just passing by, these are some must-visit Nebraska breweries.
Blue Blood Brewing Co
After being injured during a training, police officer, Brian Podwinski’s life changed–and so did Lincoln, Nebraska. Shortly after, Blue Blood Brewing Company was born. As the name suggests, Podwinski may have left the force, but the force didn’t leave him. With lines of beers like the Outlaw Series, The Usual Suspects, and 10-Code Series, it’s easy to see the blue runs deep.
Lucky Bucket Brewing Co
Beer fact: before there were bottles and kegs, people took buckets to the brewery to carry back that precious beverage. This lesser known fact of beer history inspired the name Lucky Bucket. Keep in theme and try their Pre-Prohibition Lager. Lucky Bucket Brewing definitely deserves to be on our list of must-visit Nebraska breweries.
Nebraska Brewing Co
After roughly 13 years of homebrewing, Paul and Kim Kavulak decided to offer their beer to the world. With 24 beers on tap, there’s a beer for everyone. About 20 minutes from downtown Omaha, Nebraska Brewing is located in the quaint town of Papillion. If you’re ever in Nebraska, Nebraska Brewing is the place to be.
Upstream Brewing Co
This is one of the, if not the, oldest craft breweries in Nebraska. Located in Omaha’s Old Market, Upstream Brewing is a hotspot amongst locals and out-of-town guests. Though it seems a lot of guests come to Upstream for dinner rather than solely tasting great beer, the beer alone is well worth the visit!
Zipline Brewing Co
This great brewery in Lincoln is a place for all beer lovers. Only open in the evenings (3-8 or 9 pm most days), Zipline Brewing is a place to go when you’ve set out to taste good beers. They change the menu often, and many of their brews are only for sale on tap–which means if you want to try their unique beers, then you gotta go in person!
Nebraska’s craft beer game is stronger than you thought it was, isn’t it? We’ve only told you about five must-visit Nebraska breweries, but there are plenty more worth a trip! And if you happen to take any of those brews home, be sure you’ve got a Pop the Top bottle opener to crack ‘em open!
