Maine is known for its quaint towns and seaside getaways. But one thing that may be too often overlooked are the great breweries. Make some time to check out some of our favorite must-visit Maine breweries.
Allagash Brewing Company
When craft breweries were just becoming a “thing”, Allagash Brewing founder Rob Tod realized most breweries focused on German or British style beers. To fill the void, he started Allagash Brewing, specializing in Belgian-inspired craft beers.
Barreled Souls Brewing Company
If you’re in Portland, Maine, you must stop by Barreled Souls. Play a game of tabletop shuffleboard and enjoy some great beer in this very laid-back brewery. The outdoor section is a great place to spend a summer afternoon or evening.
Bissell Brothers Brewing Company
If you want to go to a place that’s hip and affordable, go to Bissell Brothers. Here you’ll get a 5 oz pour for just $2 and a 10 oz for $4. At this price, you’ll be able to sample your way through a lot of beers without doing much damage to your wallet.
DL Geary Brewing Company
DL Geary Brewing Company can be considered a piece of American craft brewery history. This brewery first opened its doors when there were only 13 craft breweries in the United States. If you love craft beer, then this is one of our favorite must-visit Maine breweries.
Gneiss Brewing Company
Work Hard. Play Hard. Be Gneiss.
With a tagline like that, how can we not love Gneiss Brewing Company? This unique brewery centers itself around geology, naming its beers things such as Flowstone, Sublimation, Delta, and so on. Every Gneiss beer offers drinkers the opportunity to learn a thing or two about Planet Earth. This interesting concept along with great beer makes Gneiss Brewing one of our must-visit Maine breweries.
Hidden Cove Brewing Co
If you like fruity beers, Hidden Cove Brewing Company has some beers for you. If you’re lucky, your visit will coincide with their seasonal, Jalapeno Apricot Ale. It may sound odd, but trust us, it will make your tastebuds dance.
Maine Beer Company
If there is a place for beer connoisseurs, it’s Maine Beer Company. The fact that this relatively small brewery is about to quadruple in size is a testimony of their popularity. Take note, however, that Maine Beer Company closes by 8pm Monday-Saturday and at 5pm on Sundays.
Oxbow Brewing Company
Go a bit into nature without traveling too far away from town to enjoy some great brews at this farmhouse brewery. There is nothing like finding a gem like this in the great outdoors. The remarkable woodsy location is what makes Oxbow Brewing a definite must-visit Maine brewery.
Rising Tide Brewing Company
Rising Tide Brewing Company is one of those breweries that has something to please everyone. No matter what kind of beer you fancy, they have a beer you’ll love. When in Portland, Maine, Rising Tide Brewing is one brewery not to be missed.
Shipyard Brewing Company
One of the most interesting things about Shipyard Brewing Company is that they offer samples regularly, allowing you to taste a variety of beers. Another great thing about Shipyard is that they have a massive gift shop with cool items that will help you cherish your visit long after it’s over.
